On July 15, 2016 Spain got a new UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Dolmen of Menga (in Spanish Dolmenes de Menga), which is a very interesting and spectacular megalithic burial mound. The oldest parts date back to between 2-3 000 BC and the site is unusually well preserved.
The site is just outside the town centre of Antequera, Malaga province.
The town of Antequera itself is also very interesting and well worth a visit, a lively Spanish town with plenty of roman archeological traces. Be sure to try the local speciality ”Porra Antequerana”, which is a variation of the Spanish Salmorejo (cold tomato and bread soup).
